After installing Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC), formerly ActiveSync, in the Microsoft Windows 10 operating system, you will likely also need to run the following utility to get it to function fully.
Full instructions for this utility are provided in this document.
For our previous simple WMDC-Helper utility and additional suggestions, please see the full article.
Note: This material and information is provided as a limited service/reference and does not imply that Juniper Systems will provide full support for the use of any specific third-party software or hardware.
Click on the file name below to download an install utility for the AMXU (Allegro MX uBlox) GPS Expansion Pod Setup version 1.9 software. This version adds an Exit button which fully closes the utility (as an alternative to the upper-right X button), properly freeing the COM3 port for use by other software programs.
Copy to and then run the CAB file from File Explorer on the Allegro MX Field PC to install. Once installed, run the program from Start > Programs > AMXU Pod Setup.
Click on the file name below to download the IDBlue Wedge utility software for use on our rugged handheld computer products such as the Mesa Rugged Notepad. This utility works with the IDBlue Wand Stylus (http://idblue.com/) to read UHF or HF RFID tags and input the data into whatever app text field currently contains the blinking cursor. Copy (do not extract) the "ID-Blue-Wedge-Install-2.0.0.1.CAB" file to the rugged handheld, locate the file in File Explorer on the handheld, and then tap on the file to install.
This utility improves battery behavior on the Allegro MX, such as preventing Power Fault messages and conditions as described in the
"Power Fault state" knowledge base article. It also potentially prevents premature low battery warning messages, particularly when using an expansion pod or an external device that is being powered by the Allegro.
The file below can be downloaded (without extracting), copied to, and then run from File Explorer directly on an Allegro MX Field PC. More information specifically regarding this patch is provided by clicking on the title above to view the full article.
The MicroSD Fast Resume patch for the Allegro MX Field PC (and potentially TK6000) may prevent issues with apps not being able to access files on the card such as immediately (within 20 seconds) after resume from suspend, or initially after being left in suspend overnight. Using a high speed (such as a Class 10) MicroSD card may also or alternatively prevent such issues.
Download, save (do not extract), and then copy the below CAB file to the handheld. Locate in File Explorer then tap on the file to run.
The below file can be downloaded, copied to, and then run directly on an Allegro MX Field PC to set the keyboard driver at a relatively low system thread priority level. This may prevent potential interrupts from other resource intensive processes which may be running, which could potentially cause lag or dropped characters when performing rapid input through the hardware keyboard.
Install the USB printer driver update to add support for additional printers. This allows printers that use the "MDL" tag with GetDeviceID when the system is initially identifying an attached USB device. As previously, the printer must be PCL 3.0 compliant, and be compatible with the generic usbprn.dll that comes built-in to most versions of Microsoft Windows (such as on our rugged handheld computer products). You must also be running an app that supports printing (such as has an option to display the print dialog) and can address LPT1. Additional information is provided in the following article.
Download the below file, copy the file to the \Windows folder on the handheld, then using File Explorer on the handheld rename the file to "usbprn.dll" (which will overwrite the original built-in file). You may then need to perform a Reset and re-attach the USB printer.
Click on the file links below to download the KeyRedirect version 2.2 utility which allows the hardware function keys (F1, F2, etc.) on the Allegro MX Field PC to work in the U.S. Forest Service MIDAS application software. Version 2.1 improved compatibility with the different region versions of the MIDAS app, while version 2.2 addressed a "multiple instances of process" issue.
Connect the Allegro MX to ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Center, run the Desktop Installer (KeyRedirect-2-2-Install.exe) on your desktop PC, and then after installation to the Allegro MX is complete perform a Reset. If you will be using the hardware function (or Windows Mobile hot) keys in other software applications as well, you may want to instead save the Direct Utility (KeyRedirect.exe) file to a program location (such as under \Windows\Start Menu) to manually execute only when running MIDAS. If you are hiding the Start (Task) and/or SIP bars while in MIDAS (such as by running HideTaskbar.exe), then you may also want to assign a hardware button to KeyRedirect under Start > Settings > Personal tab > Buttons icon to press to initially execute whenever MIDAS is running.
Several written languages are available for the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system (OS) on the Allegro MX Field PC. Click on the links in the table below to download files for installing the latest release of each OS language. Additional support in each language is provided through your local
Reseller.
Warning: Installing this OS update will remove all currently installed apps and files, setting the unit back to a factory default state.
Note: Allegro MX Field PC units already running OS release 1.1.3 or 2.0.5 (as shown on the Allegro under Start > Settings > System tab > System Config icon > System ID tab > OS Build Version) do not need to be updated (unless installing another written language). Each of these latest versions are hardware dependent. Switching languages on a unit running 2.0.5 requires that a non-encrypted MicroSD card with available memory is inserted. Additional information and direct install files (if you have troubles with the below desktop install files) are provided in the full article.

When network security conflicts with a Microsoft ActiveSync / Windows Mobile Device Center connection, the most common workaround used on Windows Mobile devices is to tap on Start > Settings > Connections > USB to PC icon and uncheck the "Advanced Network Functionality" checkbox. Though when this is done an issue has been encountered that may drop the connection unexpectedly, particularly when transferring large or multiple files.
Download, copy to, and then run the below patch utility on the rugged handheld computer to stabilize the connection when the "Advanced Network Functionality" has been disabled. You may need to Reset the handheld after installing the patch before it is fully applied.

The Bluetooth COM setup utility can be used in place of the built-in Bluetooth Manager in Microsoft Windows Mobile for setting up and managing connections to Bluetooth SPP (Serial Port Profile) devices such as GPS receivers, laser range finders, barcode scanners, and many others. It is intended to be especially useful for connecting to devices that do not require (nor specify) a passkey, connecting to a specific SPP service on devices that provide more than one, and to avoid common issues with and/or caused by the built-in Bluetooth Manager.
Click on the file below to download, copy the file to the Field PC, locate the file in File Explorer, and then tap on the file to install. Once installed, the utility can be found under Start > Settings > Connections tab > Bluetooth COM icon. This utility comes pre-installed on Mesa Rugged Notepads.
Microsoft Office Mobile provides the ability to open and edit Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents, as well as access Outlook information (Email, Calendar, Contacts, Notes, and Tasks), on the rugged handheld. Click on the link from the table below for the latest version of Office Mobile for your model rugged handheld computer.

The Clean Bluetooth utility clears all Windows registry entries that are being used by the Microsoft Bluetooth Manager. It can be used on Juniper Systems rugged handheld computers running the Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system. This utility clears existing issues with an incorrect or no passkey being assigned to a Bluetooth device, an inaccessible virtual COM port number that was previously assigned to a now deleted Bluetooth device, and other potential issues. To avoid such issues in the future, follow every step of the Bluetooth Setup with Microsoft drivers.
From the table below, right-click on the file to download and save to a location on your desktop PC. Copy to and run the file on the Field PC. A soft Reset of the Field PC will be required.

The Microsoft .NET Compact Framework may install automatically with your application software, or your application software may only need the version that is already pre-installed in the operating system. If not, click on the version link from the table below for the Field PC model on which you would like to install software. The Microsoft .NET CF is used to run software applications that were written using a "managed" code language (VB .NET, C#, J#, etc.) in Microsoft Visual Studio.
