Operating System Checks for Installed SD Card
To reduce power consumption, the operating system checks for a micro SD card each time the tablet is powered on, and if no card is detected, the operating system disables the SD card reader and the corresponding USB mass storage device in the Device Manager. This saves battery life by allowing the SD card reader (and other related USB resources) to go into a low power state.
To disable this feature, set the registry value:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Juniper Systems]
"DisableSDCheck"-dword:00000001
