Screen goes black at Windows 10 login

28 Feb 2020

When booting or resuming a device running Microsoft Windows 10, such as the Mesa 3 or Mesa 2, the screen may go black as soon as you get to the point of needing to enter a login password. This often happens when a Windows Update is attempting to load and possibly was interrupted.

To resolve the issue, while at the black screen press Ctrl+Alt+Del on the keyboard (or on the Mesa press the Windows+Power keypad buttons), then the on-screen Power icon, and then Restart. Performing a proper Restart should clear the issue, such as to allow the Windows Update to complete.

Microsoft offers additional ideas if you select "Before signing in to Windows 10 I see a black or blank screen" at the following web page: Microsoft - Troubleshoot black screen or blank screen errors.
