Archer 4 Battery Information

27 Jun 2024

There are two rechargeable Li-Ion battery options for the Archer 4. The typical battery life from a fully charged battery with typical usage under standard conditions is

The actual amount battery life you experience can vary significantly depending on your usage of backlight, applications, GNSS, and radios (Wi-Fi, cellular, Bluetooth®).

Batteries are under warranty for 400 charge cycles and one year from when the battery leaves the factory. Following the 400 charging cycles, we expect the battery to continue to work, although it may have a reduced capacity. Check batteries every three months and recharge to 30–50% capacity to prevent the batteries from discharging to a level that might damage or permanently reduce the capacity of the batteries.

CAUTION: Only use batteries designed for the Archer 4 from an approved vendor. Using non-approved batteries may change performance and void your warranty.

CAUTION: Do not install the battery door without the primary battery installed. If you do the handheld will immediately turn off and any unsaved data will be lost.

Hot Swap

The Archer 4 contains an internal secondary battery that provides about five minutes charge allowing you to swap the chargeable battery without powering off the device. When you hot swap the rechargeable battery the screen will dim and  a notification will display.

CAUTION: Do not power the Archer 4 with a USB charger and cable while replacing or removing the primary battery.

Extend the Battery Life

  1. Charge the battery to 80%.

  2. Press both the power and and volume up keys.

  3. Tap Power Off

When you are ready to use the Archer 4 again,

  1. Replace the battery pack.
  2. Plug in the USB charger and cable and connect it to the  Archer 4.
  3. Power on the Archer 4.

Cold Temperatures Affect Battery Capacity

Cold temperatures can decrease overall battery capacity by about 25%. The exact decrease in capacity depends on the specific operating temperatures.

*Run time is affected by many factors in addition to temperature e.g., processor load, Wi-Fi/Cell/GNSS use, screen brightness, etc.

The Li-Ion battery is charged most efficiently at room temperature (68°F or 20°C), but it will still charge at any temperature between 41°–113°F (5°–45°C). The battery may not charge outside of this range.

Caution: Charging at temperatures above 113°F (5°C) or below 41°F (45°C) will most likely cause permanent long-term damage to the battery.

Resolve Battery Problems

Reduced Battery Capacity

If the battery charging capacity is severely reduced, the battery is likely worn out. You can continue to use the battery but may need to charge more frequently. To get the maximum battery life, replace the battery.
