Chemical exposure can degrade case housing parts
20 Dec 2022
CAUTION: Exposing the device (such as rugged handheld computer) to the following chemical substances for an extended period may cause degradation to the case housing parts (such as rubber bumpers/grip, plastic, touchscreen, etc.) over time.
- Spray-on sunscreen
- Mosquito-repellant with Deet
- Pine oil
- Oil-based paint
- Automotive brake cleaner
- Carburetor cleaner
- Tek-Trol disinfecting detergent
A specific example is during our testing, hand pump sunscreens have not been an issue. The problems we found were with the aerosol sunscreens. As with all the chemicals, it is a good idea to wipe the hands dry or let the chemical (Deet, picardin, sun screen, sanitizer, etc.) absorb in to the skin prior to handling the unit. Otherwise, wash hands of any such chemicals before using the device. If needing to clean the device, see the following web page.
