Cedar cellular network settings and compatibility
5 Dec 2024
As cellular networks retire their 3G network, some functions used by 4G LTE cellular modem devices may also be disabled. You may need to change your data plan to accommodate these changes. For example, you may need to activate a new data-only AT&T plan instead of data+voice plan for the Cedar CT8X2. If you are unable to activate a new AT&T SIM card, a SIM card from T-Mobile may still work.
For general instructions from AT&T, go to https://www.att.com/esupport/article.html#!/wireless/KM1218306
To modify the APN settings for the CT8 and CT8X2,
- Select Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile Network.
- Select the slot in which your SIM card is located. (It won’t be greyed out.)
- Select Advanced.
- Locate Access Point Names.
- Press the + in the top right corner.
- Enter the APN settings from the table below.
- Save the changes under the three dots in the top right corner. Once saved, select the new APN.
- Change the date and time settings.
- Select Settings > System > Date & Time.
- Enable Use network-provided time zone.
- Restart the device. Wait until the connection is established.
AT&T has two APN options: nxtgenphone or Broadband. Try nxtgenphone first. If that APN doesn't work, try Broadband.

Our Cedar products have been tested and work with the following networks.
- AT&T
- T-Mobile
Coverage using T-Mobile with our Cedar devices may be limited.
You may have to Toggle the Data on in order to access the Internet.
- After the SIM card is installed. swipe down to access the quick settings on the device.
- Tap on the Network bars showing the signal Strength.
- Toggle the Data to the On position. After about a minute, you should see the "3G" or "4G" signal appear next to the signal strength bar.
You may also have to put in APN settings manually. In order to access the APN settings, head to Settings > More > Cellular Networks > Access Point Names. If you are unsure of the APN settings, contact your cellular carrier.
