2G GSM cellular network shut downs

21 May 2016

2G GSM cellular networks are being shut down to free bandwidth for use by newer 3G and 4G networks. Wireless carriers have begun to announce network shut downs, while other carriers are offering extended coverage periods, or service upgrades. Once the 2G GSM network that you are using in your area of operation has been shut down, the integrated 2G GSM cellular modem in the GPS (RTK) pack may no longer function. You will then need to use an alternative network, or a separate wireless access device, such as connecting through a Wifi Mobile Hotspot (Mifi).
