Use NTRIP with Geode and ArcGIS App

15 Sep 2021

After setting up and connecting the Geode, you can use Geode Connect to configure an NTRIP connection with the Geode before using this connection with an ESRI ArcGIS app. A continuous internet connection is required to maintain NTRIP corrections.

iPhone and iPad

  1. Open Geode Connect.

  2. Tap More > Receiver Configuration > NTRIP Configuration.

  3. Enter the information supplied by your NTRIP service provider.

    • IP Address

    • Port

    • Username

    • Password

  4. Verify Send GGA to Caster is checked.

  5. Tap Save.

  6. Tap Download Mount Points.

  7. Tap the drop-down in the Mount Points section.

This will open a list of mount points in the network close to the Geode's position. The prefix SB means single baseline, which will connect the Geode with a single baseline caster. All other prefixes indicate network baselines. The closer the mount point, the more precise your positioning solution will be. If you have trouble connecting with the mount point you chose, select another. The Virtual Reference Station (VRS) mount points are likely to be a good option.

  1. Choose the appropriate mount point.

  2. Tap Save.

  3. Tap Start NTRIP.

After obtaining a position fix (such as initially leaving the Geode turned on outside under open sky for 20 minutes), a green NTRIP connection icon will appear on the Geode Connect home screen to indicate NTRIP is working. It might take a minute or so to connect.

  1. Open the ArcGIS app.

  2. Log in with your username and password or skip the login.

  3. Confirm the location provider is Integrated.

  4. Open a map.

  5. Tap the icon on the right to show your location.

  1. To verify you are receiving information from the Geode you can perform a one or two-person test (while these instructions refer to using an Android device, these tests also work on an iPhone and iPad).

Note: The GPS accuracy displayed in the ArcGIS app will not be correct. See Geode Connect for correct accuracy information.

Android

  1. Turn on Mock Location Services.

  2. Ensure Improve Location Accuracy is turned off.

    • In older versions of Android, tap Settings > Location > Mode > Device Only.
