BackAdhesive residue remains after removing a screen protector sheet

After removing a screen protector sheet from a handheld computer, sometimes there can be the appearance of an adhesive residue remaining on the display. If this is truly the case, then the residue may be removed using one of the recommended cleaners described at the following webpage.
Most often it is not that an adhesive residue has been left on the display, but that the screen protector sheet had become fairly permanently adhered to the display. And upon removing the screen protector sheet, it has peeled off (at least portions of) the top layer of the touchscreen. In such a case, the only solution is to have the touchscreen replaced at a certified repair center.
It is not known exactly what may cause a screen protector sheet to become fairly permanently adhered to the display, but it is believed to be due to long term exposure to outdoor environmental conditions and/or certain application conditions. This has led to recommendations for how often certain brand screen protector sheets should be removed and replaced to avoid such an issue, similar to as described at the following webpage.
