Alta Battery Information

Alta uses a Li-ion rechargeable battery pack. Two battery options are available:

  • Standard—Removable 5700 mAh hot-swappable battery; provides up to 7 hours of typical use on a full charge. 

  • Extended—Removable 15000 mAh hot-swappable battery; provides up to 18 hours of typical use on a full charge.

Battery life depends on factors such as keypad backlight, screen brightness, active apps, GNSS usage, and radios (including Wi-Fi, cellular, GNSS, and Bluetooth).

Although the Alta battery pack cannot be overcharged, leaving it connected to a power adapter for extended periods may damage the Li-ion battery lifespan.

CAUTION: Only use batteries designed for Alta from an approved vendor. Use of non-approved batteries may change performance and void your product warranty.

Guidelines for Charging

The battery charges most efficiently at room temperature (68° F or 20° C) but will charge at any temperature between 41° and 113° F (5° to 45° C). The battery may not charge outside of this range.

For charging, use a USB power adapter that delivers 9-20 V and at least 27 W. We recommend charging with the USB-C cable and power adapter that came with the tablet.

Note: Lower-power adapters can be used but will have slower charging times.

Hot-Swap Battery

A small internal, non-removable battery provides up to five minutes to replace the main battery without losing data or damaging your tablet. During a hot swap, the tablet screen dims and a notification appears. 

CAUTION: Do not power Alta with a USB charging cable while hot swapping the battery.

Extend the Battery Life

  • Charge the batteries at room temperature.

  • Don't leave Alta connected to the charger for extended periods.

Short-Term Storage

To store Alta for a few days:

  1. Charge the battery to 80%.

  2. Press Power and Volume Up. Select Power off.

Long-Term Storage

If you do not plan to use Alta for more than two weeks, prepare the tablet and battery for storage.

  1. Charge/discharge the battery to 30–50%. 

  2. Power off the tablet.

  3. Remove the battery. Store it in a cool, dry location.

Check the stored battery after three months. If the battery is discharged below 30%, charge it to at least 30%.

When you are ready to use the tablet:

  1. Replace the battery.

  2. Connect the Alta to the USB-C cable and power adapter. 

  3. Power on Alta.
