The Field Application Engineer position includes responsibilities in both the customer service and sales department for HarvestMaster (HM) products. The person hired for this position is responsible for seasonal travel to perform product training, maintenance, and/or installations. Responsibilities also include project planning, sales/service calls (via on-site with customer and by telephone or email) and database entry. The Field Applications Engineer reports to the Sales Engineer and will work out of the Kansas City area office. The ability to develop trusting long-term relationships with clients and prospects is necessary.
Job Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Customer Service Activities: The candidate can expect to spend 60% of his or her time on these activities
- Conduct on-site customer service visits, coordinate new and existing service programs, and train new and existing customers. The Field Applications Engineer is a technical expert on all of the HarvestMaster products.
- Create training materials and troubleshooting materials for both internal and external users, provide assembly information for user manuals to the Technical Writer, assist OEM’s and provide phone support on HarvestMaster products.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software related issues over the telephone or email, and issue Return Material Authorization (RMA) numbers when product is to be returned for service.
- Assist in the test of new software applications and hardware. Document bugs and problems that are found.
- Participate in the “after-hour” service program answering customer questions when “on-call”. The “after-hour” service program is on a rotating basis.
- Archiving and documenting pertinent information in appropriate databases
Sales Activities: The candidate can expect to spend 40% of his or her time on these activities:
- Handle normal sales activities such as incoming and outgoing calls, emails, and facsimiles from customers and resellers. Calculate and quote product prices to customers. Demonstrate products or services.
- Sell HarvestMaster and Juniper Systems Products primarily in the seed research market.
- Represent company at tradeshows, demonstrating products and talking to prospective customers
- Build and maintain a close relationship with customers;
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience: Requires a BS degree in agriculture related field or Associate’s degree with 5 years experience in seed research or farm related operations. Project management knowledge or experience comes highly recommended. Must demonstrate the ability to prioritize and organize. A strong familiarity with PCs and Windows applications such as Windows Explorer, Microsoft Word and Excel along with email and internet communications is required. Typing 30+ WPM desired. Candidate must have strong mechanical skills, a basic knowledge of electronics, and the ability to use basic tools; such as voltmeters and wrenches.
Working Hours and Conditions: Generally requires 40-50 hours per week and approximately 1 week of travel per month except during harvest season when more trips and longer hours may be needed to get the job done. When traveling, working conditions might be in cold, dusty, hot, and humid areas. Requires on-call (after-hour) service at least 1-week per month during Spring and Fall harvest seasons.
